Bookcover art : After leaving college, Chris worked as an illustrator at a design studio where he learned all different aspects of bookcover design and production, including paste-up, book design, layout and typography. Occasionaly he was allowed the chance to paint the book cover. Some of this early work - which includes the Tros and the UFO covers - is shown in the galleries below.
In 1972 Chris went freelance and has remained so ever since. Although lucrative advertising commissions were subsidising book cover art work in those early days, Chris continued to work on many fantasy book covers which were much more exciting work and allowed him to paint what he wanted and enjoyed.
